Native American Prison Art Curation During COVID-19
In October 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, Professor Blu Wakpa curated an art show at the request of the Native American Council of Tribes, a non-profit founded and run by Native people who are/were imprisoned at the South Dakota State Penitentiary. This entirely online exhibition features their drawings, beadwork, and writing.
Carceral Liberation? A Native American Prison Art Show
In October 2019, Professor Blu Wakpa collaborated with several community organizations and Native people who are/were imprisoned to curate an art show at a community studio on Tongva lands/Los Angeles. The exhibition primarily featured the work and words of Native people who are/were incarcerated at the South Dakota State Penitentiary and the South Dakota Women’s Prison.
